On Trend: Terracotta Tile

I’m not saying Scandi or hygge  is dead but due to its dominance over the past few years, designers are looking toward finishes with more color and more pattern.

For 2018 expect to see a growth in comfortable furnishes and finishes that create a sense of cocooning and luxury. As design turns toward maximalism, what has been forgotten seems fresh and new again.

Terracotta – the forgotten floor of the 70’s will be brightening up floors and walls.

It’s no wonder designers are falling in love with this finish all over again; it’s warm and welcoming, adds personality and ages well.

Original terracotta tile is highly absorbent in its natural untreated state. Fortunately today, new printing technology can create ceramic and porcelain tile that resembles terracotta but is safe for use in moist environments without the expensive maintenance.

Terracotta tiles add an instant vintage feel. Surprisingly, these tiles pair well with both pastel and bold colors.

If you have terracotta tile floors, don’t rip them up. Because older terracotta-tiled floors are most likely sealed, it’s best to call in a professional tile cleaner to remove the years of grime and bring the tiles and grout back to their original color. Have them resealed with a matte varnish and re-grout if necessary.
