Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year 2021: Urbane Bronze

It seems all the experts are in agreement so far when it comes to predicting how color preferences will change as we move into the coming year –  we’re going to see a shift away from the cool color palette that defined the last decade and move toward warmer, more organic tones.

Sherwin-Williams announced its 2021 Color of the Year (COTY) –you know, since we’re all already over 2020–and it’s Urbane Bronze, a rich shade with gray undertones.

Initially inspired by everything from fall and winter looks seen at Paris Fashion Week to the browns of the 1970s, this standout color from Sherwin-Williams’s Sanctuary palette also has its roots in the tonal shifts seen in the world of furniture.

Urbane Bronze is an excellent choice for an accent wall that provides a backdrop for fireplaces or other architecturally significant spaces within the home.

“The home is now the ultimate retreat from the world, and color is an easy and effective way to create a personal haven,” Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams, said in a press release. “Urbane Bronze encourages you to create a sanctuary space for mindful reflection and renewal.”

Exemplifying our connection with nature and desire for calm, Urbane Bronze is equal parts trendy and timeless. I am seriously thinking about repainting my front door in this shade!

For 2021, we’ll see less copper and rose gold, and more bronze  used in interiors. Bronze tones are the more sophisticated and organic metallic color palette.

At first glance, painting the exterior of your home Urbane Bronze may feel like a daunting proposition. The reality is that when it comes to any rich shade, the end result is sure to be both enveloping and incredibly sophisticated.
