TCL thinks you’ll want this newest ‘Kitchen Accessory’

I recently posted about how Amazon’s virtual assistant Alexa can communicate with many household appliances through the Dot and Echo. Now you can interact with your appliances, keep an eye on your child in another room and search for a recipe with a TCL tablet specifically designed to help in the kitchen.

Television and consumer electronics manufacturer TCL’s Xess tablet is a massive 17.3-inch “smart home hub,” with Alexa integration, built-in dual 3-watt JBL speakers, and a remote camera.

The tablet has an AMD Octa-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage, with a slot for MicroSD expansion (expandable up to 64GB) and two USB 2.0 ports.

“Xess is one of our favorite new products because this big format is really family-oriented and has a multitude of uses at home or at work,” —Dr. Stan HU, General Manager of Innovation, ALCATEL ONETOUCH

Additionally, you’ll also get a kickstand, carrying handle (think portable Roku TV) and a stylus that can provide hours of fun with the included Sketchbook App.

With access to Google Play you can add your favorite apps such as Evernote and Uber but TCL thinks the preloaded Kitchen Stories app with multiple kitchen timers, shopping lists, and hand-gesture capabilities for a mess-free screen will please the most demanding users.

The 5-megapixel IP camera can pivot 360 degrees so it is convenient for video chatting and has a built-in microSD card slot so you can save video directly to it.

The Xess has impressive battery life considering the large screen with just under 4 hours of usability.

The Xess has a few drawbacks. If you are comparing it to an iPad Pro or Surface 4 Pro you’ll see a noticeable difference in pixel resolution. The Xess is also not waterproof.
