GE Appliances, a Haier Company, recalled electric cooktops last month due to knob malfunctions that can cause the burners to stay on after attempting to turn them off.
About 11,000 cooktops in black, white and stainless trim sold between July 2022 and September 2023 are being recalled due to a burn hazard.
The serial numbers of the affected 30″ cooktops will start with prefixes LT, MT, RT or ST. To locate your serial number, you will need to check the label located on the bottom of the unit, close to the front left burner.
In the affected units, the burner can remain on following use even after being turned to the “off” position. In these affected cooktops, the “On” indicator light will not be illuminated To take safety precautions, when not using the cooktop, turn it off at the breaker.
Contact GE Appliances to arrange for free installation of a replacement burner knob assembly. Call the GE Appliance Recall Hotline: 877-261-1509 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET or send an email to ge5491@sedgwick.com with your model and serial number.
