Mosquito Control for your Outdoor Kitchen

Don’t let biting mosquitoes keep you from enjoying time outdoors with family and friends! Spring is fast approaching and if you haven’t already planned for it, now is the time to bring mosquito control to your outdoor kitchen and patio area.

With health concerns over the spread of the Zika virus, and enormous amount  interest has been generated by the marketing of new devices designed to attract, then either trap or kill, mosquitoes.

If you are planning to overhaul your landscape you can chose to install misting systems or propane traps. Some are portable and  totally self-contained, utilizing propane to provide both power and a source of carbon dioxide as an attractant.

If you need a more person device or something you can take with you on outings, there is a new solution from Thermacell.

Instead of butane power, this new mosquito repellent system uses rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.

The new Radius Zone Mosquito Repellent lasts up to six hours per charge. According to the company, this battery system offers several advantages.  It works better at higher altitudes (not a problem here in Florida) and it can travel on airplanes – which is good if your destination has power to recharge your battery.

The Radius can operate while charging,  so if you do have somewhere to plug it in, you can fire it right back up. The battery powers an internal heating element that silently warms and activates the repellent. Once activated, the repellent disperses to create an invisible zone of protection that keeps mosquitoes from entering into your outdoor space.

The Radius uses an EPA-approved pyrethroid active ingredient. This advanced pyrethroid is scent-freeFully sealed repellent refills do not have an expiration date.

Thermacell’s testing has showed the Radius to be highly effective in reducing and eliminating mosquitoes in a 110 square foot area around the repeller.

Their data shows the mosquito traps to be 5′ from the Radius repeller.

Thermacell  will launch the Radius in early 2018 for US$49.99. If you join their crowd funding campaign now you can enjoy considerable savings on both the Radius and 12 and 40 hour refill packs before it launches.  The Radius starter kit comes wit the Radius, USB charger and 12 hour refill.
