I’ve written about the Miele Generation 6000 appliance range previously discussing their innovative technology in kitchen appliances. Now I am thrilled to introduce their impressive G6995 SCVi XXL K20 Fully Integrated Dishwasher.
This exceptional, fully integrated dishwasher incorporates the new Knock2Open door-opening feature. Now your dishwasher can be fully integrated into a handleless kitchen.
Simply knocking on the panel twice opens the dishwasher.
Another new feature, Time Control, is also available. Time Control uses a row of LED lights on the control panel to show you how long the cycle has left. Even if your panel is fairly tight to your countertop you should still be able to judge the remaining time left in your cycle.
Other features include ComfortClose, for streamlined closing of the door; Reidel-endorsed Perfect GlassCare, for ensuring glassware is cleaned gently; and ThermoSave, to cut electricity consumption by 40%.
Currently the G6995 SCVi XXL K20 is only available in Europe. No word on when it will be available in the US. I’m sure it will be on display at KBIS 2015.
Even if the Miele Booth at EuroCucina 2014 didn’t have tempting aromas of gourmet food coming from two show kitchens, I still expect it to be a popular exhibit.
The company is set to unveil new design features offering the ultimate in appliance individuality. According to Gernot Trettenbrein, Managing Director of the Domestic Appliances International business unit, this bold move is a step away from “off-the-shelf products.”
Discerning lovers of fine kitchens are simply bound to be inspired by the new design features – such as M-touch controls, and out-of-the-ordinary materials now offered for customized manufacturing.
The spacious Milan exhibit will cover the two design lines PureLine and ContourLine as well as showcase the Obsidian Black, Brilliant White, Havana Brown and CleanSteel stainless steel finishes.

Eurocucina 2014 will run from April 8 until April 13. The Miele booth (Hall 9, Booth A02/B03) is part of a special show called ‘Technology for the Kitchen’.

Unless you live on a remote desert island, you are aware of the impact Microsoft’s Kinect has had on gaming. What you may not be aware of its ability to be a 3-D scanner with third-party apps.
The new possibilities comes from the Microsoft Kinect Fusion research project. It’s called Fusion because the technology fuses 3D data on top of the room mapping and gesture-aware sensors in the $150 Kinect device.
Simple 3-D mapping could open possibilities for homeowners to scan their rooms and send them to Interior Designers to make virtual changes. The technology is already available on Window 8 and its realistic price makes the future of new apps very promising.
Microsoft is helping to encourage developers to create more apps by sponsoring a 13-week Kinect Accelerator program for young startups in partnership with Techstars this month.
While it may be a while before this hits the interior design community, engineers at companies like Toyota and Nissan are already using it to give consumers a virtual showroom and the ability to tour the inside of new concept cars.
Bloomingdale’s introduced special fitting rooms – called Pods – that can scan your body in 5 seconds and recommend a pair of flattering jeans. The Bodymetrics Pod may soon be a common site in department stores and a home version is sure to revolutionize online shopping.
Who in our industry do you think will use it first? Will a large company like Masco use it as a virtual cabinet display at a Show like KBIS instead of setting up actual vignettes? Would Kohler use it to give you a tour of their new Elevance BubbleMassage rising wall bathtub so you could experience its controls without getting wet? Maybe it will be Miele with an inside look at how a dishwasher cleans with the ability to zoom in and see how the water jets clean away food particles? Or maybe it will be Hafele with an interactive automated lighting and opening system in a Kitchen vignette? I guess only time will tell.
