It seems everyone wants to emulate the true look of wood while having the ease of care found in ceramics – but who wouldn’t?

Dakota by Flaviker is so realistic, it looks aged, stained and even has tiny worm holes.

Dakota takes its name from the North American landscape at the time of the pioneers, when men were colonising the great open spaces using materials provided by the land itself. The collection is inspired by planks made of alder, a timber that is widely used in construction and interior finishes, and is characterized by natural imperfections caused by ageing.

The planks are offered in four sizes: 16″ x 68″, 8″ x 68″, 8″ x 48″ and 8″ x 32″ A 3D tile, perfect for vertical surfaces, is offered 8″ x 32″ and looks like two 4″ planks. Stair pieces are also available.

The Dakota finishes are very natural and sophisticated. You can choose between Naturale (Natural), Avana (Havana) Grigio (Gray) and Tortora (Turtledove). The rectified planks are produced with a slight convex shape for easier installation. They self-level under their own weight.

Estatuario is the most versatile color and comes in 6 different variations with 2 finishes: Satin and Riverwashed. The patterns are E01, E02, E03 and their mirrored images E01R, E02R, E03R. Marfil and Pulpis are offered only in the satin finish.

Like all Neolith products, Classtone is an ultra compact surface that’s made of 100-percent natural material including clay, feldspar, silica, and mineral oxide. It’s an exceptionally durable, extremely thin material that’s scratch, stain, UV, cold, heat, and fire resistant. It also stands up to harsh cleaning agents and chemicals, plus requires very little maintenance. Neolith’s super thin sheets offer a lightweight alternative to natural stone.

One should note that each quarry is unique, so the clay or sand will have different amounts of silicates and feldspar. Depending on the mixture, clay may have to be added, and other times they just have to add color.

Slimmker Click Floating Ceramic Tile

Inalco Slimmker Click takes the high-performance characteristics of the Slimmker Floor product and marries it with traditional tongue-and-groove laminate flooring plywood backing.

This creates an easy-to-install flooring option. The semi-translucent white porcelain collection can be made in many lighter porcelain designs which allow for backlighting much like an onyx or alabaster slab.

Design Obsession

I seem to be Obsessed with Arabesque tile these days. It doesn’t matter if they are glass, painted clay or somewhere in between – I like them all.

The traditional Moroccan shape adds old world texture without adding a lot of pattern. The tile can look contemporary or antique depending on the material and color you select and the installation process.
