If you hear people talk about Zellige (pronounced zill-eejh)  tile you might be curious to know what hey mean. Zellige is a specific type of terracotta tile that originated in Morocco.

Moroccan Zellige tiles are so different from other types of tile that a word had to be created especially for it, namely the Arabic word الزلي, zellige or zellij which means “tile.”

Specifically, Zellige is mosaic tilework made from individually chiseled geometric tiles set into a plaster base. The interlocking edges or “teeth” is what keeps the intricate patterns intact when repeated on larger surfaces.

Today Zellige primarily refers to traditional glazed, cut terracotta tiles from Fez, the ancient city of mosaics. The unique clay from this region is primarily composed of Kaolinite.  Continue reading “5 Reasons to Love Zellige Tile”

Trends I Expect to See at Design & Construction Week 2018

I always make it a priority to continue to provide my customers with the best construction materials and remodeling advice our industry has to offer.

This January I’ll be attending Design & Construction Week in Orlando. This is  the largest annual gathering of the residential design and construction industry that  features the co-location of the NAHB International Builders’ Show (IBS) and the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS).

As one can imagine, when such industry powerhouses combine to throw an event meant to both inspire and connect design-build professionals with the most innovative resources and materials available on the market, their attendees would come home with a wealth of knowledge and ideas. Pantone Color of the Year 2018

Ultra Violet is “an enigmatic purple shade that evokes the inventive spirit and imaginative thinking that challenges the status quo.”

The wait is over. Pantone has announced Ultra Violet 18-3838 as their Color of the Year 2018.

“UltraViolet is an enigmatic purple shade that evokes the inventive spirit and imaginative thinking that challenges the status quo. A spiritual, cosmic hue, Ultra Violet pushes the boundaries of what inspires us to look upward and outward to the future.”

Back in 2014, Pantone had already given us fuchsia/purple color stories selecting Radiant Orchid as Color of The Year.
