Brummel Bar Furniture

If you’re into kitchen and bath design, you probably heard the term “kitchen furniture” before as it pertains to free-standing cabinetry. But, are you familiar with “Bar furniture?”

On display at  EuroCucina – International Kitchen Furniture Exhibition in Milan April 8-April 13 will be DIAMOND “Cheers Hour” from Brummel Cucine.

Diamond “Cheers Hour” shares the unique bombe island shape from the Brummel Papillon Kitchen Collection, created by Bassano Del Grappa.

Handmade by artisans in Bassano Del Grappa, Italy, “Cheers Hour” is a masterpiece in glossy white perfection.

The glass island top slides open to reveal its functional side. The center of the island also moves and slides forward to create a bar ledge and reveal two wells – one for bottles, the other for stemware.

In addition to the sink and cooktop, the island also has an ice maker. No pricing information was given.

Flir One Thermal Image Device

The heat is on with the Flir One Thermal Image Device

The Flir One released the very first personal thermal image device designed specifically for your iPhone 5 & 5s at CES 2014.

As the first and only personal thermal imager for the consumer market under $350, Flir One is compact, easy-to-use, compatible with the iPhone5 and 5s and fits on the phone like a protective case.

Once mounted, the device displays a live thermal image on the phone’s screen, giving users unprecedented ability to “see” in an array of conditions, including complete darkness.

The device combines an infrared thermal camera that converts energy (heat) into an electronic signal which is then translated into an image on to your phone’s screen. With the ability to see heat, it allows you to identify those pesky things like moisture detection, energy loss, and many more creative possibilities.

Cool Features:

•The onboard battery source powers the device for more than two hours of continuous use; can also be configured to boost the iPhone5 and 5s* battery life by 50 percent.

•It can see in the dark, observe invisible heat sources, see through smoke, and even see through some materials. Scene range temperature: 32 °F to 212 °F (O °C to 100 °C)

•MSX Blending (Adds visible spectrum detail to thermal images and enhances resolution)

•Video capture (.mov format), Still image capture, Choice of color palettes (B/W, W/B, Rainbow, Contrast, Arctic, Hot/Cold, Iron)

While the case adds a bit of chunkiness to your svelte handset, it’s a minor trade-off for awesome Predator-like heat vision. And while the iPhone 5 version of the Flir case will be available this summer, the company is working on an Android version as well. 🙂

Whether you want this device to detect a leak, look at deer in the middle of the night, or help you navigate through smoke you have to admit it’s pretty cool.

Dacor Discover IQ Dual Fuel Range

Ever since Android was released, there have been attempts to build it into appliances. None of these products have kicked off the era of smart appliances we’ve all been dreaming about, but Dacor is back at CES this year with yet another Android-powered appliance in its Discovery iQ series.

The 48″ range comes  with a 7″ Android powered tablet built into the control panel complete with the ability to run apps. The Wi-Fi connected range comes with Dacor’s iQ Cooking App which provides the user “with tools they require for precision cooking.” It allows home chefs to control the range with their tablet or smartphone to do such things as conveniently preheat the oven, change a cooking setting or receive a text message when the meal is complete.

“The new range combines the cooking precision our customers have enjoyed for nearly 50 years with a first-of-its-kind Dacor Cooking App and iQ Controller, providing a convenient, connected cooking experience.”

The Dacor Discovery iQ range does has  built-in safety features. For instance, whenever someone is using the range via the built-in tablet, all users connected from other rooms will be kicked off the controls. The oven also cannot exceed a certain temperature when controlled from the app. The top burners also can’t be controlled via the mobile app.

The Discovery iQ 48″ Dual-Fuel Range is priced at $11,999 MSRP and will be available nationwide in June 2014. A 36″ range is supposed to be released next for $4,299.

Let’s hope that the specs on the tablet are updated from Android 4.0.3,  512MB of RAM and 1GHz Exynos processor.
