Taking cues from runways and European trade shows, Benjamin Moore has selected Simply White (OC-117) as it’s Color of the Year for 2016.
“White is transcendent, powerful and polarizing — it is either taken for granted or obsessed over,” –Ellen O’Neill, Benjamin Moore Creative Director
This color (or non-color depending upon how you look at it) isn’t going to be celebrated like other past COTYs. Remember when Marsala was everywhere you turned from lipstick to rugs?
While there has been a trend in decluttering and simplification, this white could be swapped out with numerous variants by a handful of manufacturers.
This white could also be used in a more traditional interior. Would the color be less successful if not used in a minimal interior?
Using Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2016
Only beautiful white rooms are shared online – they have beautiful natural light and probably artificial light introduced by the photographer. There’s probably some color editing too.
White paint needs the right lighting to look vibrant and fresh. Always test your chosen inspiration color in your home. If your room opens to a lush green yard your walls will look green. Too little light and your walls may look too shadowy.
All white rooms, in reality, aren’t that livable for the average family.
I think a COTY should be inspirational. Simply White seems better suited to a Color Theme.
