Sherwin-Williams has announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind web-based tool that allows consumers to select any online image and instantly identify the Sherwin-Williams paint colors that correspond to the colors contained within the picture.
Now when you see a color while surfing the Internet on sites such as Houzz or Pinterest, there is a tool that will make paint selection easier.
Once you’ve created a profile at www.letschipit.com, you will need to add the “CHIP IT!” bookmarklet to your Internet browser toolbar. This bookmarklet will allow you to identify up to ten Sherwin-Williams paint colors represented in online photos simply by scrolling over the image.
Don’t click the image because it will open any hyperlinks that may be associated with it. When your mouse hovers over the photo, small color swatches will appear and a blue “CHIP IT” button. Clicking that button will create the paint palette sample for you.
Here are a few examples I tried from a few photos I had bookmarked.
If you don’t want to use your Facebook profile to sign in, you can paste a URL address for the image into the Letschipit.com site to create your palette. If you are unsure of the image url, right-click it with your mouse and select “copy image url.”
It seems like this tool should have been created a long time ago. I wonder how accurate it is? Great idea.
The screen on your computer is not going to accurately represent colors. Before you commit, make sure you get an actual color chip or tester from the manufacturer.
That is why I like Chip It! Because if you are looking at a painted room and the site/mag tells you what color it is, odds are lighting and printing are making it look different any ways.
Love the idea! I do think that the actual colors and the colors the program will find are going to be different – but it looks like a great way to help understand how certain colors work together.
