As technology rushes relentlessly ahead, the colors of Chrysalis evoke a calm oasis — a place to pause and find balance. The palette, with colors ranging from off-black to chalky neutrals and dusty blues, is designed to create a more comfortable interior.

“An important influence for Chrysalis is the appreciation of earth’s natural striations,” says Jackie Jordan – director of color marketing, Sherwin-Williams. “The patterns created by land and sky are driving design inspiration, therefore the palette’s colors are found in nature, from rocks found on the beach to a stormy sky.”

Sherwin-Williams 2015 Colormix Color Forecast

The Sherwin-Williams Colormix 2015 collection tells optimistic color stories that reflect a brightened outlook and adventurous spirit for the year ahead.

Sherwin-Williams color experts researched trends in art, fashion, science and pop culture to determine which 40 colors that make up the color forecast. The colors are grouped into four palettes: Chrysalis, Voyage, Buoyant and Unrestrained.

“We’re seeing a more cheerful approach to design and have forecasted colors that will provide a range of inspiration for designers to create fresh, joyful interiors.” – Jackie Jordan, director of color marketing, Sherwin-Williams.

Chrysalis

The colors in this palette evoke a calm oasis or a place to pause and find balance. With colors ranging from off-black to chalky neutrals and dusty blues, influence by the earth’s natural striations is easy to spot.

Voyage

The far-fetched, sci-fi dreams of past decades –like space tourism and undersea resorts –inspired this palette to look to such outer limits. It features hues that represent the color spectrum imagined while emerging from the water into the atmosphere, such as undersea teal, bright green kelp, light watery blue and deep space purple.

Buoyant

Reminiscent of vintage floral patterns, this palette features light and deep greens, violets and a pop of coral. It was inspired by signs of growth and expansion post-recession and the natural healing of botanicals.

Unrestrained

Inspired by a celebration of a carefree spirit, wanderlust and pulsing color, this palette features bold, ethnic-inspired colors and designs to the bohemian lifestyle. Created so each color can be used on its own for a pop of color or combined to create a vibrant, energetic space, it has saturated primary colors, like sunny yellow, lively turquoise and bright blue, as well as black and white.

Fifty Fifty Kitchen Concept

Fifty Fifty Room Divider Storage |KitchAnn Style

I came across this interesting room divider, called Fifty Fifty from Florida, an Italian manufacturer. This creative collection of kitchen components and furniture centers on a bookcase room divider with a dining table that slides to create seating or extra work space in the kitchen.

The table comes in incremental sizes from 162 to 272 cm in length or about 63.75″ to 107″. When not in use, the kitchen extension can be retracted and you can’t even tell it’s there.

Versatility is very important in kitchen design. The freedom to adapt our surroundings based on the task at hand makes living easier and isn’t that what everyone wants?

Rustic Plank Inspiration

Using rustic planks can be a great DIY, low-budget way to make a room have more visual appeal. I’ve put together a collection of photos from the web to serve as inspiration.

This simple hallway goes from ho-hum to cottage chic with textured planks on the ceiling.

These stairs would look so boring and plain without the plank façade.

This modern look is kept from looking sterile by using wooden planks for the fireplace surround.

Using coordinating paint is a great way to save on material for this reading nook.

Mixing unexpected materials such as marble with rustic planks makes a room more appealing.

Milling reclaimed planks into countertops will add lots of personality to a kitchen.

Facing an existing wall with wood planks in a great DIY project.

Here’s a great use of reclaimed planks for just outside your door.

Consider running planks vertically on a wall for a an updated feel.

Sometimes a small accent is best used.
