A Dolce and Gabbana Collaboration

Why would you ever select a KitchenAid Mixer in Empire Red or Satin Copper when you could have one of these?

Fashion powerhouse Dolce & Gabbana and Italian appliance manufacturer SMEG formed a design collaboration once again for this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan.

Following last year’s success when SMEG and Dolce & Gabbana teamed up to create 100 unique hand painted refrigerators, this year the collaboration focused on small kitchen appliances in a series called “Sicily Is My Love.”

Appliances in the collection are decorated with gold lemons, citrus fruits, prickly pears and bright red cherries. Some of them feature traditional Sicilian decorations like crocchi – framed in triangular motifs.

Others include the Southern Italy and its famous coasts and landscapes; Mount Etna surrounded by frescoes; ruins of the Greek temple of Castor and Pollux in the Valley of Temples; trinacrie and cartocci and decorative motifs similar to stylized acanthus leaves.

“Smeg’s credentials in high quality engineering and leading technologies are unquestionable, but Smeg is also the only brand to successfully collaborate with iconic designers and architects, to bring true designer style into the home.”

The collection will be available to purchase later this year. No pricing is available at this time but I’ll be sure to add one of these to my Christmas wish list.
