InSinkErator is undertaking a voluntary recall of 1,400,000 air switches due to fire hazard.
We all know water and electricity do not mix so millions of homes have installed InSinkErator countertop air switches for their disposers.
Ideally, the air switch is isolated from the electrical current. When operated, the user will not experience shock if hazardous material is present, such as water on a kitchen countertop.
Unfortunately, the affected InSinkErator air switch can overheat if water gets in the power module, thus posing a fire hazard,

The switches were sold in Chrome, Satin Nickel, and White between 2005 and October 2017 at home improvement stores, online websites and plumbing retailers.
Note: The 29 affected Canadian products were sold from February 2017 to October 2017
If it is plugged into a single outlet power module, unplug the power module and check the label on the back to confirm your module shows one of the listed model numbers. If so, leave your power module unplugged and follow the next instructions below.
Visit the Insinkerator Safety Notice site to register your disposer unit. If you need to register more than 3 products, call 1-855-215-5695 to speak to their representative 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
InSinkerator is working on a replacement plan to provide affected customers with a “replacement SinkTop switch kit that is better able to withstand accidental exposure to water.”
