Pantone has unveiled a new blue shade, Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri, a vibrant periwinkle blue hue with a violet-red undertone as its choice for Color of the Year 2022.
Creating a new color for the first time in the 23 year history of the Pantone Color of the Year color program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place. Pantone chose periwinkle to represent the moment of transition we are experiencing.
Very Peri invites us into a virtual but dynamic world, where we can be the first explorers.
“As we move into a world of unprecedented change, the selection of PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue color family,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in a press release. “Encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time possessing a violet-red undertone, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression.”
How to Use Pantone Color of the Year 2022
There’s a general move away from maximalism toward sophistication, but it’s a more relaxed take on sophistication than ever before. There’s a strong interest in creating spaces for entertaining friends and family and Very Peri is a fun color to throw in your decorating scheme.
Very Peri adapts new qualities on different materials. It can look futuristic as a metallic and on technical fabrics, but it also suits handcrafted looks and natural fibers. Whiles blue are generally described as an unappetizing, I love this French Provincial look. Using Very Peri in moderation is a great way to add interest in unexpected ways.
Despite Very Peri being a brand-new color, trend forecasters and color specialists appear to be on the same wavelength. The color is a close cousin to WGSN and Coloro’s Color of the Year for 2022, Orchid Flower, and their color of the year for 2023, Digital Lavender.
