Last year I added Graham and Brown to my Color of the Year (COTY) coverage and I’ll really glad I did. This wallpaper titan knows a thing or two about color.
Last year’s COTY, Penelope, was a more sophisticated version of Millennial Pink and very much the opposite of this year’s vibrant regal teal.
Graham & Brown selected Tiru as their Color of the Year choice for it’s celebration of “tranquility, good luck and longevity.”
Tiru was taken from the backdrop of Tori, Graham & Brown’s Wallpaper of the Year 2019.
“We have chosen Kabuki as an important design influence for 2019, just as for the Wallpaper and the Color of the year 2019. With a rich history, an entanglement of spiritual meanings and a mix of beautiful images, Kabuki inspired this glamorous paper and color that translate traditional art into a statement in a modern style. ” – Paula Taylor
This bold teal paint color was inspired by the Graham and Brown 2019 Kabuki Trend. Kabuki is a classical Japanese dance-drama, which showcases a bold, avant-garde color palette.
Do you remember seeing the Fall 2018 Gucci fashion show with Kabuki-inspired knitwear and ski masks adorned in jewels? This trend will gain more traction as more people are inspired by this traditional art form turned into a modern style statement. (Rihanna likes it)
How to use Graham & Brown Color of the Year 2019 – Tiru
Tiru is very similar to Sherwin-Williams’ COTY 2018 Oceanside. With just a bit more blue, Tiru is ideal for the coziest corners of your home.
Tiru is a great choice against white, it creates a luxe feel while being inviting at the same time.
Show your adventurous side by using Tiru in unexpected places. The ceiling of this Georgian-inspired foyer is divine.
For a pop of excitement, team Tiru with charcoal gray, coral pink and metallic gold for a contemporary twist.
Tiru is a great choice for Mid-Century Modern rooms or for any space where you want a vintage inspired vibe.
Who do you think did it better?
Sherwin-Williams with COTY18 Oceanside, Dunn Edwards COTY18 The Green Hour, Graham & Brown with Tiru or do you have another favorite blue such as Behr COTY19 Blueprint ?
