It’s here – the first Color of the Year (COTY) prediction for 2019. Just like last year, PPG is the first company to announce their pick for which color will be trending in Interiors in 2019.
While I already reviewed Sherwin-Williams’s color forecast with 6 palettes, they have not revealed their COTY pick yet.
According to PPG Paints, the color of 2019 will be Night Watch – a deep hunter green that’s inspired by nature. “Night Watch is about bringing the healing power from the outdoors into your home through color,” said Dee Schlotter, PPG senior color marketing manager. “The dark green hue pulls our memories of natural environments to the surface to recreate the calming, invigorating euphoria we feel when in nature.”
How to Use Night Watch
If you’re nervous about playing with a deep, dark hue, limit the color to the inside of cabinets, backs of bookshelves or perhaps a painted floor.
You needn’t worry about your traditional home being stuck in the dark ages; bold walls add a pleasing balance to modern furniture with clean lines.
Night Watch looks great with a bunch of colors we’re already fans of, like blush pink and super-saturated blues.
Think beyond shower floors and incorporate Night Watch as a dramatic geometric matte tile wall to incorporate one of 2018’s hottest tile trends – Dramatic wall coverings. Upgrading the drain to gold elevates what could have been a simple bathroom into a design star.
Night Watch evokes the feelings of the forest, an evergreen shade, one glimpse of it brings tranquility and can create a peaceful environment in a home.
Night Watch was born to thrive in the dining room – even if it’s only incorporated in table linens or upholstery. If you look online, it’s amazing how many examples of rich green dining rooms you can find.
Night Watch is also a good accent option for exterior doors or Bahama shutters. To see how the sumptuous, moody green paint color looks in your own home, try the PPG online visualizer tool.
